When Barack Obama leaves office in January, he will leave behind a nation of people who are unsure of how to proceed without his steady hand at the wheel.
Throughout his presidency, he has seen the scope of his job change, and he has always been able to keep up with panache. He has pushed through reforms the likes of which we haven’t seen since the mid-‘60s, and has made sure that millions of Americans are protected through the Affordable Care Act. In addition to his political accomplishments, he has shown through his personality and temperament what it means to lead a nation.
Here are a few things about our current Commander in Chief that we’ll miss when he leaves office.
His puns are legendary
Every Thanksgiving, the President traditionally pardons a turkey, giving it a reprieve from being eaten. President Obama went one step farther and used that opportunity every year to make a variety of turkey puns and other dad jokes that made his daughters blush.
His best one?
“Time flies, even if turkeys don’t.”
We’ll miss his dorky sense of humor and his ability to bring levity to tense situations. It’s a big man who can make fun of himself like Obama did on a regular basis.
