Did you know that the body gets stiff after death? The actual term is called Rigor mortis, and it is caused by caused by a process that forces the body’s muscles to contract and become stiff. It usually starts a couple hours after death and lasts between 36-48 hours. After that, the body returns to a limp state by reversing the process. This is how many investigators are able to determine if the death was recent, because if a body is rigid, the victim has likely died within 48 hours.
